Osaka & Kyoto Food & Beverage

Owing to fertile soil and clean water Kyoto is able to harvest fine local vegetables called kyoyasai. Kyo-ryori (Kyoto-fare) specializes in using these vegetables together with soybean products like tofu, and its plain taste derives from Zen tenets which dictate that the taste of the ingredients should remain intact. To experience kyo-ryori you can visit either an upscale Japanese restaurant or other popular restaurants sprinkled throughout the city. In addition, having drawn in many people from abroad who were captured by its charm, Kyoto also offers a variety of international foods.

Influenced by Osaka’s history of gathering all kinds of ingredients and foods, people from Osaka are willing to pay for delicious food. They enjoy a variety of cuisine ranging from Japanese, Chinese, French, Korean to a variety of ethnic foods. Still, the most popular choice is the local folksy fare called konamon (flour-based foods), such as udon (noodles), tako-yaki (small octopus dumplings), and okonomi-yaki (a pan-fried batter cake made out of various ingredients). Any visit to Osaka would not be complete without trying some of these local delicacies. Please take time to enjoy the local food of Kyoto and Osaka.
