Osaka & Kyoto Entertainment

Here is an overview of several fun things to do in Osaka: visit Osaka castle, the most representative symbol of Osaka; go to Tsutenkaku or the Floating Garden Observatory (Umeda Sky Building); have a delightful cruise in the rivers or Osaka Bay; take a tour of museums of history or art—the list goes on. You can also take in traditional Japanese entertainment such as Bunraku, traditional puppet theater, or Kabuki, traditional theater featuring only male actors, or enjoy contemporary entertainment at several theaters in the city.

In Kyoto, you can appreciate the cultural assets of the old capital, or experience some splendid traditional festivals such as the Aoi Matsuri in May, Gion Matsuri in July, Gozan Okuribi in August, and Jidai Matsuri (Festival of Ages) in October. Also, you can try your hand at pottery or Japanese fan decoration, weaving, or yuzen-printing. For nightlife, Gion in Kyoto city and the Kita and Minami areas in Osaka provide you with a wide range of eating and drinking options.
