Hokkaido Iconic Venues
The 1972 Winter Olympics, held in Sapporo, introduced the city to the world and earned it a reputation as an international city. Since then, Sapporo has hosted the Pacific Music Festival, 3 matches from 2002 FIFA World Cup, and most recently, the G8 Hokkaido Toyako Summit in the nearby Lake Toya, in which issues such as global warming were discussed. Additionally, there are some large event facilities such as the Sapporo Concert Hall Kitara, called one of the world's best acoustical spaces, and the Sapporo Dome, Japan's most northerly dome for baseball and soccer.
