The urban part of Fukuoka city has been developing as an economic and governmental base in Kyushu, while capitalizing on its potential for domestic and international exchange. An international and cultural city, Fukuoka city has four large convention facilities: the Marine Messe Fukuoka, Fukuoka International Congress Center, Fukuoka Sun Palace Hotel & Hall, and the Fukuoka International Center. These facilities function together as a whole to meet the needs of all manner of convention. In addition, ACROS Fukuoka, a cultural-arts-complex, which was opened as an international base of culture and information, has received a great deal of attention, in part due to its unique design.
