Fukuoka is a city where you can enjoy every kind of sport year-round, such as professional baseball, soccer, and sumo, as well as an international marathon race. Also, many traditional festivals are held. The Hakata dontaku minato festival, which boasts the largest number of visitors during the national holidays in May, and the Hakata gion yamakasa are most representative. You can also have a nice time perusing the Kyushu National Museum, devoted to cultural exchange between Japan and Asian countries, or stopping in at Hakata-za, a large theater offering many forms of theater art. In addition, there is the Canal City HAKATA, a commercial complex with artificial waterways, where you can enjoy shopping, entertainment, and gourmet food. Or visit the Tenjin Underground City, designed with flagstone walkways in the image of 19th century Europe. As you can see, you can have a good time just walking around the city. But don't miss Nakasu, the biggest nightlife center in western Japan, which bristles with about 2000 restaurants and bars. The beautiful night view reflected on the water of the Nakagawa river is fascinating.
