Savoury dishes are commonly used in Bintan Island. A local ingredient like tempe (fermented soy bean) is generally used in many dishes served in open-air markets as well as restaurants. Local snacks such as prawn or fish crackers and traditional Indonesian layered-cake make a real treat for the sweet tooth.
